Gold Mother is nearly nine minutes long with an addictive groove. It leads a poppy, oompah-oompah frolic without stooping to triviality. In some places it reminds of a lighter ’Medieval’ but why it does is something that can’t be fathomed. Its also got a fantastic rhythm and a marvellously over- long ending which your ’tuned-in’ reviewer can say climaxes in a ’Sonic Cathedral of Sound’.
It is a tribute to mothers everywhere and is based on Tim’s experience of the birth of his own child Ben with James’ ex-manager Martine.
The sleeve art feature the artwork creator’s own mother, Dominique Souris.
The track features backing vocals by the Inspiral Carpets who had supported James in 1989.
